We have a new local care/nursing home, Halden Heights in High Halden, just down the road from Tenterden where I live. It’s beautiful and an example to other care homes. Now open and accepting residents. Part refurbished from an existing building (Halden Hall) which used to house the insurance company, Bishops, and a large extension/part new build, giving a total of 59 beds. Soon to have flats for rent as well in a separate building.
The owners have put lots of thought into the layout – I’m really impressed – there is a spacious feel to the home, hoists in each room over each bed which is brilliant for the residents and staff, excellent up/down/shake it all around beds, wet rooms (great for the residents – it’s only the staff who get a little wet!), and best of all good security with key pad number entry doors to each floor which is so important especially with Alzheimer’s patients.
And then there is the 24 hour nursing, end of life care, lots of activities, community involvement, lovely gardens, peaceful surroundings, air conditioning, and smaller dining rooms/lounges on each floor to maintain a more intimate feel rather than a huge impersonal area … and much more.
Anna Cunningham is the Matron at the home and what a delightful person, friendly and bustlingly professional, what a great combination, just the sort of person you want to run a home like this.
I wish them all the best for the future and high occupancy rates! I’ve got a good feeling about this place!
